PlasmaGuard is a 3D-treatment applied in vacuum by innovative plasma technology. This high-tech plasma process uses no water and consumes a minimum of energy.
With PlasmaGuard we not only guard your product and your body, we also guard nature! The highest technical performance is reached with the lowest environmental footprint.

How does PlasmaGuard repel water?

The 3D-treatment penetrates throughout the upper materials of the shoe and covers each textile fiber with an ultra-thin layer of water and dirt repellent material. As a result the surface of the shoe or garment will strongly repel water and it will be very difficult for water to pass through the treated materials, keeping your socks and feet dry.
While running in the rain a shoe will easily increase 20% in weight due to water take up. After PlasmaGuard treatment the weight gain for the same shoe is reduced with more than 90%!

How does PlasmaGuard repel dirt?

The 3D-treatment penetrates throughout the upper materials of the shoe and covers each textile fiber with an ultra-thin layer of water and dirt repellent material. As a result dirt cannot stick to the fibers anymore and can easily be rinsed off with water.

Will PlasmaGuard affect drying time?

The fact that PlasmaGuard covers each individual textile fiber with an ultra-thin layer of water repellent material will have a huge impact on drying time.
If a running shoe gets completely soaked it will typically take more than 12 hours to dry, while the same PlasmaGuard treated shoe will dry within minutes!

Is the treatment durable?

PlasmaGuard is a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment. It can withstand multiple washes. The coating can only wear off by scratching or rubbing with hard materials. But even in case of intensive wear on your trail shoe for instance only the superficial layers of the coating will be affected, and the water repellent effect throughout the structure will remain intact!
When cleaning your product it is recommended to simply rinse off with water or use a soft tissue to rub. Rubbing with hard brushes is not recommended since it will affect the quality of the outer coating layers.

What is meant with light weight?

As the PlasmaGuard treatment is done on molecular level, the amount of added material to a shoe or garment is practically zero. For example, on a pair of light weight running shoes, the amount of added PlasmaGuard material is less than 0,5 gram!
Also with PlasmaGuard there is no longer need to add water repellent membranes, saving significant amounts of weight.

Why is PlasmaGuard breathable?

The 3D treatment covers each textile fiber with an ultra-thin layer of water and dirt repellent material. Ultra-thin means 1000 times thinner than a human hair! Because the PlasmaGuard coating layers are so thin they will not affect the transport of air and water vapor through the textile materials, while water drops beat off.
With PlasmaGuard there is no longer need to add water repellent membranes, improving comfort to unprecedented levels!

How does PlasmaGuard affect flexibility?

The ultra-thin layers of water repellent PlasmaGuard material are so thin that they are invisible, and they do not change the look and the feel of the material.

How is PlasmaGuard environmentally friendly compared to traditional processes?

The plasma treatment is done in a closed vacuum environment, which is a completely dry process. There is no water used at all, or 100% reduction in waste water compared to traditional dipping processes.
The PlasmaGuard coating is so thin that more than 80% is saved on coating material compared to traditional processes.
The plasma process is low energy and there is no requirement for ovens to dry out the water or solvents. With PlasmaGuard there is a 50% reduction in electricity consumption and emission of CO2!
